What is the Lloyds Register?

What is the Lloyds Register for marine products?

Lloyds Register Foundation is a UK charity dedicated to the research and education in science and engineering.

The Lloyds Register was originally started in 1760 to support the marine industry as a maritime certification of product quality. Its 1764 ‘Register of Ships’ gave underwriters and merchants an idea (and an assurance) about the condition of vessels they insured and chartered. Over time this has been extended to numerous industries including rail, gas and oil.

Within the marine industry, Lloyds is focused on adding value at every stage including:

  • Innovation
  • Design
  • Build and commissioning
  • Operation
  • Life extension
  • Ship recycling

The Lloyds Register by certification, validation or accreditation stands as an independent figure on products and a symbol of quality assurance to consumers. Global Panel Products Ltd is proud to hold a Lloyds certificate (No. 05/00052) for the supply of our marine grade plywood to the shipping industry.
